COLDPLAY ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM TITLE: ANYONE KNOW WHAT A MYLO XYLOTO IS?

The fifth album from the world-conquering nice men of rock is to be released in October, under a truly baffling title.

Coldplay have announced the title of their fifth studio album. Mylo Xyloto (pronounced my-lo zy-letoe), will be released on October 24 on Parlophone Records. Although the title was only announced officially today, it has been worked out last month by fans on the coldplaying.com messageboard, where one member with access to the Performing Rights Society database noted that Chris Martin had registered the title Mylo Xyloto on July 6.

The album has been produced by Markus Dravs, Daniel Green and Rik Simpson, with "enoxification" by Brian Eno. Inevitably, it will be released in a variety of formats, from MP3 to a super-deluxe edition, as outlined in the announcement of the title: "Mylo Xyloto will be released in digital, CD and vinyl formats. The 180-gram vinyl edition will include a 12" x 36" poster. A special limited edition Pop-Up Album version will also be available, which will include a 12" x 12" hardback book containing graffiti pop-up art designed by David A. Carter, vinyl, CD and exclusive content including photographs, excerpts from the studio diary and the band's personal notebooks."

The "reversible" cover art was just revealed at www.coldplay.com. "Half of the CDs will be packaged with the full colour artwork as the cover while the other fifty percent will have the CD booklet flipped, showing the silver initials 'M X' via a die-cut sheet placed over the colour image."

The announcement offered no clues about what the title actually means, sadly.

The album will be preceded by a single, Paradise, on September 12.
