SEBASTIAN ROCHFORD AND BRIAN ENO: DREAM NAILS
At the start of the year, Polar Bear drummer and frontman Sebastian Rochford launched a fairly audacious plan to release a brand new song on the last Friday of every month featuring different collaborators. Not only that, but each song comes with an exclusive remix by a separate party not involved in the song itself. So far, he's worked with everyone from Spoek Mathambo to Drew McConnell from Babyshambles, while remixes have been supplied by Micachu and Simon Bookish. For the final song in the series - titled Days And Nights At The Takeaway and set for release as a double album in March 2013 - Rochford called on Brian Eno (whom he had previously worked with on his Everything That Happens Will Happen Today album) and Underworld's Karl Hyde, who supplies the meandering guitar figure on Dream Nails. Opening with a fairly skeletal backing, and featuring Rochford on vocals for the first time in the series, it shifts from a lilting, dreamy opening three minutes into a sudden (and relatively brief) cacophony of drums, splashy cymbals and spooky vocals. Just as the song starts to fade out we hear a lone voice shout "live your life", which seems like pretty good advice.
