Former Roxy Music member teams up with Underworld man for Afrobeat-tinged electro rock experiment

From Roxy Music keyboard freak to ambient pioneer, Brian Eno has rarely put a foot wrong. As this collaboration with Underworld's Karl Hyde shows, he's also unpredictable: Someday World sounds nothing like the previous work of either musician. Essentially a straight-ish rock album that dabbles in electronics and Afrobeat, it sits somewhere between TV On The Radio and New Order but lacks the sophisticated intensity of the former and the sheer hedonistic release of the latter. The crux is in Hyde's passioned, unorthodox vocals - all swooping melody and unlikely rhythm - that consistently transform the nine songs, particularly the sublimely airy Who Rings The Bell and the driving Witness. Not a misstep for Eno, but not quite the best of both worlds, either.
