NEW BRIAN ENO DOCUMENTARY IN THE WORKS
Helvetica director Gary Hustwit has started production on the the career-spanning Eno, which will feature never-before-seen footage, unreleased music, and more
A new documentary about Brian Eno is in the works. The career-spanning Eno is helmed by Helvetica director Gary Hustwit, who was granted access to hundreds of hours of never-before-seen footage, unreleased music from Eno's archive, and visual art. The film will be released in multiple versions. According to a press release, Eno will employ "groundbreaking generative technology in its creation and exhibition" in order to provide unique viewing experiences via multiple digital formats.
Eno and Hustwit first collaborated in 2017, when Eno composed the original score for Hustwit's film, Rams - a documentary about German designer Dieter Ram. "He is the perfect subject to use this sort of approach," Hustwit said of Eno in press materials. "He's turned down many previous projects because he didn't want to do a conventional bio-doc." Hustwit added: "I think of Eno as an art film about creativity, with the output of Brian's fifty-year career as its raw material."
Hustwit has previously produced films about Mavis Staples (Mavis!) and Wilco (I Am Trying To Break Your Heart: A Film About Wilco).
