BROXY MUSIC: ROXY MUSIC
Former art students put the glamour in glam.
For Your Pleasure, their 1973 second offering, might nudge it as the better album, but few opening salvos have been as startling as Roxy Music's. Like being unexpectedly beamed aboard the cocktail bar of a glitzy interplanetary craft, Roxy's 1972 self-titled debut is an exotic, disorientating sci-fi vision that rifles through pop's past while still sounding - even now - thrillingly futuristic. This four-disc set including out-takes, demos and BBC performances illustrates how, while others may have popularised glam before them, none made it sound quite so glamorous.
