Q SUMMER 2017 - by Niall Doherty
CAN: THE SINGLES
Krautrockers celebrate their fiftieth with 45s collection.
As a band who never did anything that was expected of them, it's a very Can move to release a singles comp as part of their fiftieth birthday celebrations. The German experimentalists were pioneers whose intricate grooves and avant-funk invention has been massively influential, but you wouldn't call them a "singles band" as such. While The Singles offers a skewed perspective on their career, the real attraction lies in the rarity of some of the material, such as Turtles Have Short Legs. A must for diehards, then.
