ENO/HYDE: HIGH LIFE

In early May, Red Bull Music Academy lecturer Brian Eno and Karl Hyde (from electronic group Underworld) released Someday World, the first in what now appears to be a series of collaborative releases. The second installment, High Life, comes just a couple months later. On this outing, the two influential artists take inspiration from various forms of musical repetition, ranging from the minimalism of composers like Steve Reich to the circular Afrobeat rhythms of Fela Kuti. The result is exquisite and transportive, with the sort of refined sensibility you'd expect from such a pairing.
