Red Bull Music Academy MAY 12, 2013 - by Chris Parkin
THE GENIUS OF BRIAN ENO
Red Bull Music Academy's Emma Warren grilled Brian Eno last week with captivating results.
Brian Eno - or Brian Peter George St. John le Baptiste de la Salle Eno for those who enjoy a tongue twister - is a singular talent.
He pioneered synth pop, had a major hand in the birth of glam rock with Roxy Music, was one of the first purveyors of ambience, and is a celebrated producer famed for his work with David Bowie, Talking Heads, Devo, U2 and Coldplay.
He's also an activist, artist (his installation 77 Million Paintings is currently on display as part of the Red Bull Music Academy in New York), and, rather less well-known, once worked on a male aphrodisiac perfume for a major corporation in the late 1970s.
Last week, the great man spilled his brains at a special talk for the Red Bull Music Academy in New York. Topics included how his ambient music is played to babies in utero and how he doesn't do much these days apart from watch documentaries and come up with mad theories.
Those present will be hoping just a little of his genius has rubbed off on them.
