BRIAN ENO: ENO (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK)
Celebrating an influential icon's half century
It was highly unlikely that when Brian Eno finally was involved in a career-spanning film, it was going to go out at 10.30pm on a Friday night on Channel 5. Appearing in cinemas this spring, Eno is a generative documentary by Gary Hustwit that will be different every time it's screened. The accompanying soundtrack remains the same every play, though; and is a fascinating attempt to capture the essence of Eno's fifty years on a single CD/double LP: by including seventeen tracks from fourteen different albums, it makes quite the fist of it. Productions for others are left aside, but collaborations are included (probably the only album to have Cluster and Fred Again.. on it). It hangs together extremely well - the new material sits sweetly with the old.
