BRIAN ENO: BEFORE AND AFTER SCIENCE

This is one of the oddest albums you'll hear all year. If you've heard Another Green World, the previous LP by this former member of Roxy Music, you've got a good idea of the sonar territory explored here; if you haven't, shame on you. This isn't really rock and roll, although the opening cuts on side one are pleasantly quirky pop tunes. Eno isn't what you'd call "funky" . What he does do is paint some of the most intriguing sound landscapes around, especially the hushed instrumental lullabies on side two. It's soothing and serene, perfect to daydream to, but not to everybody's taste. Definitely worth a try, but listen before you buy.
