BRIAN ENO & RICK HOLLAND: DRUMS BETWEEN THE BELLS

One could be forgiven for letting slip an involuntary shudder at the idea of Brian Eno recording an album with a poet who counts Twitter among his primary media, but this is the best LP the ambient pioneer has been involved with since the mid-'80s. Imagine Boards Of Canada's Music Has The Right To Children as an actual soundtrack to a documentary, or if the BBC Radiophonic Workshop had been left alone to produce audio documents for schools right up until today. The music recalls Eno right across the ambient spectrum from Airports to Apollo while various folk read out Holland's functional, imagist and sometimes spangled word fragments. A bizarre treat.
