JOOLS HOLLAND: MOVING OUT TO THE COUNTRY
Celebrity karaoke with Later's human pianola...
Holland's longetivity as a TV presenter is mysterious, but may be explained by the fact that musicians relax in his company. Here, Jools' pipe-and-slippers boogie-woogie is applied to country/soul standards. The result sounds like a high-class wedding band, with guest crooners KT Tunstall, Marc Almond and Tom Jones. Solomon Burke's Moving Out To The Country surpasses its context; otherwise the best turns are those in which Holland is quietest, notably Richard Hawley doing Hank Williams and Eno's somnabulent Dreaming My Dreams With You. Another profiterole, vicar?
