SISSI RADA: NANODIAMOND
Terrific, avant-pop third from Berlin-based Athenian
Classical harpist, singer and experimental electronicist Sissi Makropoulou has said that her chosen instrument's underexposure makes it "more fertile than any other", and listening to Nanodiamond it's hard to disagree. But there's much more to it than her divinely dulcet strings; by turns luxurious and lean, dreamily transportive and foreboding, majestic and playful, these tracks brim with inventive composition and sound design. Brian Eno produces one track, Andi Toma (of Mouse On Mars) two, one of which, Maps, features vocals from music trailblazer Lena Platonos and is a standout. So too are operatic, chemtrail banger Too La and Elegierig, which suggests a Bernard Herrmann score remade by Arca.
