QUIET SUN: MAINSTREAM

Splendidly packaged release of Phil Manzanera-helmed band's one and only album.

Reformed, following the first full flowering of Roxy fame, to record this 1975 debut in quick, one take sessions, Quiet Sun were a brief, brilliant comet in the prog/glam interface. Featuring Manzanera and Matching Mole alumnus Bill McCormick, the outfit were originally ignored - the booklet to this repackaging even features several rejection letters. But with Eno in tow, they added combustible synths that elevated the elegantly structured set-pieces. And the keyboards of sometime quantum physics lecturer Dave Jarrett complement Manzanera's fluent, euphoric breaks expertly: technical 'chops' and instinctive dynamics entwined.
