CAN: CAN DVD

Digital upgrade for the Documentary and Free Concert films plus the all-new Notes.

In the thirty-five years since Can were born, their enigma has never been broken. Happily, this 2-DVD set doesn't alter that. Its two main components are familiar from 1998's Can Box. Documentary compiles loads of early/mid-'70s TV appearances (a Noel Edmonds-introduced I Want More on Top Of The Pops; a mesmerising Vernal Equinox from Whistle Test). The incredible, self-explanatory Free Concert (which would be the ultimate trance-out if it hadn't been so intrusively edited: man juggling saucepans; images of band jamming in a studio with a little boy) was filmed in Cologne in '72. Notes, camcordered on 1997's Sacrilege remix album promo tour, shows Schmidt, Crukay, Liebezeit and Karoli (now sadly deceased) being rather more affable than of old - although we could do without shots of lardy music business types tucking into celebratory buffets.

EXTRAS: Studio footage of remixes; Can short by Eno; remixing; Echo Lifetime Achievement Award ceremony film; photo gallery; discography; exclusive weblink; CD sampler of solo stuff
