JON HASSELL - THE LIVING CITY: LIVE AT THE WINTER GARDENS / PSYCHOGEOGRAPHY: ZONES OF LIVING / FURTHER FICTIONS
When pioneering trumpeter got down to the brass tacks
Jon Hassell appeared on the radar of most after being championed by Brian Eno with his Fourth World Volume 1: Possible Musics collaboration and his guest appearance on Talking Heads' Remain In Light. Hassell's blend of east and west and his unique processed trumpet playing is very much in evidence on these three releases (available for the first time on vinyl). Recorded around the time of his 1990 City: Works Of Fiction album, The Living City captures his performance at New York's World Financial Center Winter Garden to accompany an Eno audio-visual installation. The second set is a cracker: influenced by the Bomb Squad and Teo Macero's recordings with Miles Davis, Hassell reworks City: Works Of Fiction as a sequence of alternate takes, demos and studio jams. Compelling.
