BRIAN ENO DESCRIBES POWER OF LIGHT IN SHORT FILM

Brian Eno recalls one of his earliest experiences with art in a new short film released by the Red Bull Music Academy. Light And Time: The Visual Art Of Brian Eno finds the acclaimed producer and soundscape artist talking about another facet of his creativity as he describes working with light. The film, directed by Scott Thrift, examines Eno's method of light and time manipulation in conjunction with his current 77 Million Paintings audio-visual installation which is showing in New York through June 2.

In the film, Eno talks about the grace with which the slow progression of time, like life, fades one thing into something, and says that he found that projecting pure light on a constantly-mutating image to be very powerful. Part of the creative process, he says, is imagining things that don't exist and then questioning the underlying reasons before creating a new object or project himself.

Eno, best known for his work on albums made by David Bowie, Talking Heads and U2, goes on to say that one of his first experiences with art was when he was a child and his uncle showed him a projection of a Disney film.

"It was intensely bright, and I remembered this experience so strongly, the brightness and the vivacity of that color, this thing was pinks and blues and yellows, fabulous colours; and I can certainly remember always thinking that I wanted to re-create that pure, visceral sensation of light," Eno says.
